The Hidden Reason I Had to Increase My GLP-1 Dose

Day 1405 on Zepbound | After nearly 4 years on GLP-1s, I’m taking my highest dose yet–and sharing what I think brought me to this point.

Looking Deeper: Stress and My GLP-1 Dose Increase

Want to know more about the story behind today’s video? On day 1,405 of my journey, I’m reflecting on something I hadn’t fully connected to my recent struggles: stress. After nearly four years on GLP-1 medications, I’m taking my highest dose yet. This GLP-1 dose increase has made me look more closely at what has been happening in my life, beyond the food on my plate.

The Connection I Hadn’t Noticed

For about two months, I had been going through one of my hardest stretches on this journey. My cravings felt persistent, and snacking had become part of my routine at school and at home. The 7.5 mg dose that had helped me in the past wasn’t giving me the same experience.

Then John asked a question that helped me connect the dots: When did this start?

A friend had been going through something very serious, and the timing lined up with when my own struggles intensified. My mind wasn’t resting. I had trouble focusing, and the organized, motivated part of me felt harder to reach.

I believe that stress played a part in my eating patterns. That’s my reflection on my experience, not proof that stress changed how my medication worked.

When Snacking Became a Habit

What stood out was how much of my snacking felt automatic. I would come home, gather snacks, and sit down to watch something. Over time, that pattern became a familiar response to feeling unsettled.

There is a broader connection between emotions and eating. Mayo Clinic’s guide to emotional eating explains that stress and other difficult feelings can lead people to seek comfort or distraction through food. It also discusses noticing patterns, finding support, and seeking professional help when needed.

Recognizing that connection gave me something to think about beyond telling myself to try harder. What was weighing on me? What had changed in my daily life? What kind of support did I need?

What My GLP-1 Dose Increase Means for Me

At the time of this video, I had moved to 10 mg of Zepbound and had only been on it for a few days. I wanted more time before sharing a fuller update about how it felt.

My experience is personal, and it isn’t a recommendation for anyone else to increase their dose. Medication changes belong in a conversation with your prescribing clinician. For additional information, the official Zepbound FAQs explain dosing and other treatment questions.

Remembering Progress Beyond the Scale

This difficult stretch also included accomplishments I don’t want to overlook. After a long period of gradual training through Cleveland Clinic cardiac rehabilitation, I completed a 10K. I also worked up to 100 knee push-ups in a day, divided into sets.

Those milestones mattered to me. Even while I was struggling emotionally and noticing weight changes, I was doing things I once hadn’t thought possible.

Finding Support Through the Hard Parts

I can’t resolve every situation affecting someone I care about. But opening up, recognizing what I’m feeling, and letting this community support me have helped me feel less alone.

That’s why I keep sharing the whole journey. There are encouraging days, confusing days, and days when we need someone who understands.
